The **Mcusta MC-114D Forge Tsuchi Large** is a remarkable gentleman's knife. When closed the damascus steel blade with hammered finish looks great in combination with the handle, which is also enhanced with this hammered finish. Something unique you rarely find on a pocket knife.

The finish is at a particularly high level. This knife is a real showstopper and great for any neat outfit or during a dinner party. The Teflon rings ensure that the blade moves easily. The framelock locks the blade to prevent accidental closing. Incredibly practical!

Mcusta knives are produced in Seki, which has been the centre of the Japanese knife industry ever since the 13th century. At Mcusta, they pay a lot of attention to details. This means a great deal of the work is done by hand. The result is a remarkable pocket knife brand that produces charming gentleman's knives with a unique Japanese style. You won't find anything quite like them anywhere else.

Een fijne EDC als je houd van mcusta en aardig zweet. Tot nu toe geen roest en wordt vlijmscherp geleverd

On commence par un fait : il est beau, original, et il offre un grand plaisir de possession. C’est plus un couteau de collection qu’un vrai EDC .
Donc très content de l’avoir acheté puisque c’était ma cible.
Maintenant passons à la critique : cette marque a pour ligne directrice la technologie associée à l’artisanat malheureusement elle manque sa cible sur ces deux aspects
Un couteau chinois comme We KNives ou Civivi vont laisser passer quelques défauts industriels en fonction de la cible de la marque. On frôlera souvent l’insignifiant comme un petit défaut dans l’anodisation d’une pièce, un pivot interne mal fini. Ici MC Custa ne fait pas tmieux que Civivi.
Ensuite MC Custa se vante de l’intervention de la main humaine, donc les petits défauts de la partie industrialisée devraient avoir été repris, mais ce n’est pas vraiment le cas.
En soi le couteau est magnifique, il a même du charme si j’ose dire,..mais en terme de qualité de finition on est sur du Civivi, et techniquement il y a mieux pour le prix chez We Knives.
En résumé les Chinois font désormais mieux que les Japonais . je m’attendais à la même qualité que Grand Seiko (horlogerie) ou Namiki (pour les stylos). Nous en sommes loin.
L’artisanat industriel ou la manufacture industrielle, c’est une cible marketing exigente.

I have owned the smaller version of this particular knife before and was expecting it to meet the same high standards of construction.
However, I was a little bit disappointed to find it lacking in its fits and finish.
The knife on the hole is as I was expecting it with the blade being well-made and sharp out of the box and the frame looking particularly spectacular.
Unfortunately, the knife did not lock securely enough in the open position every single time.
I found that the thumb studs which also act as a stop against the frame of the knife when the blade is open was not meeting the frame symmetrically, i.e. one stud was doing all the work and denting the frame and the other side was not marked at all. 
As I’m an engineer, I decided I would remedy this issue and I set about filing and finishing off the side which was interfering with the thumb stud and remove some of the material.
This went well and the knife looks like it hasn’t been touched by me or anybody else.
The knives locking improved slightly, but there were still movement in the mechanism which is disconcerting.
I then strip the knife down and tension the spring/lock mechanism so that it would apply more pressure to the back of the blade when opened.
The knife is now working as intended and is a joy to use, but I’m disappointed that I had to repair the Product that cost well over £170.
I could’ve have. sent it back, but this would’ve been awkward due to the nature of Brexit in this country and that’s why I made the decision to repair it.

5 jaar geleden was dit mes mijn eerste aankoop bij K&T. Persoonlijk vind ik deze nog steeds de mooiste uit mijn collectie. Een vlijmscherp juweeltje!
