Its a fine axe but the varnish on the handle needs stripped, then the shaft needs linseed oil or a similar oil applied. Also you need to sand of the paint they put on the eye and apply oil there as well. This is to stop the head loosening, Id say its a good beginner axe id take this hiking or camping in a heartbeat. just be ready to finish the edge when it arrives they didn't completely sharpen it, but a quick 5 minutes with a stone and strop and its all good.
