Sharpening stone to clean your sharpening stones

The **Skerper Dressing stone** is the perfect sharpening accessory if you often use a ceramic sharpening stone. With a dressing stone you clean the surface of a sharpening stone and make sure it stays in great shape. A dressing stone will hardly remove any material. Great if your stone needs to be cleaned, but itsn't ready to be lapped.


## Metal particles


As you sharpen your knives metal particles stay behind on the surface of the sharpening stone. This sharpening particles negatively affect the effectiveness of the stone and leave you with less fine results. In addition, these metal particles can start to rust if you don't clean the stone after use.


## How to use a dressing stone.


You have to submerge the dressing stone in water a couple minutes before use. The sharpening stone should also be wet. This leaves you with the best results, and it is best for your dressing and sharpening stone. Move the dressing stone over the sharpening stone until the surface no longer contains dark metal particles. Rinse off the stone and the dressing stone and leave them to dry at room temperature.


This dressing stone can be used on all ceramic and natural sharpening stones. The grain size of the stone is not important here.


## Dressing stone, lapping stone or slurry stone


This dressing stone can technically be used as a slurry stone on sharpening stones with a 600 grit or lower. It is, however, not made for this purpose! To create a slurry we recommend slurry stones or Nagura stones. The [Naniwa Nagura stone, grain 1000](kato://product/ NANA1000), for instance. Goeie steen, je moet er alleen wel echt goed op letten dat ook je slijpsteen goed nat blijft omdat je anders het vuil er maar moeilijk af krijgt. Voor de rest is het een prima steen. 

Ik kocht de Skerper dressing stone samen aan met het Skerper Basic slijppakket.  Ik had een heleboel erg botte messen.  Het slijpen begon heel vlot tot de slijpsteen verzadigd raakte met metaalslijpsel, waarna het slijpen niet meer vlotte.  Een behandeling van de slijpsteen met de dressing stone maakte de de slijpsteen helemaal zuiver.  Heb je erg botte messen dan is de aanschaf van een Skerper Dressing stone echt noodzakelijk om de slijpstenen opnieuw zuiver te kunnen maken. Top!
