 The axe head is made from top-quality steel. From the cutting edge to the eye the blade is even, thin and carefully forged and hardened. The result is a cutting edge that retains its sharpness well, the risk of breakage is significantly reduced and the life is extended. If the cutting edge is professionally sharpened there is no need to harden it again. Even at low temperatures it remains possible to use this axe on all types of hardwood.

 The handle is made from a type of top-quality wood: Hickory wood. This North-American type of wood is tough and won't break easily. Perfect for absorbing blows without breaking.

 ## Maintenance Ochsenkopf axe

 The right maintenance extends the life of your axe. For that reason you should always correctly store your tools. A storage place that is too dry will dry out the handle. However, a storage place that is too humid will make the handle swell which could, in time, damage the fibres of the wood. If you are planning to store your axe for a longer period of time it is wise to protect the cutting surface from rust. All you have to do is apply a little bit of oil or fat on the cutting surface.
