The **Nontron Traditional kitchen knife 8 cm** is a beautiful French knife for small jobs in the kitchen. Everything about this knife exudes tradition. From the minimalistic blades to the round handles with classic engravings. 

## Nontron Traditional

Nontron knives carry the name of the village where the knives have been made by hand ever since the Middle Ages. Coutellerie Nontronnaise, the company that produces the Nontron knives today, can also be found in this historic French village. 

## The handle

The handle is made from boxwood. This wood originates in France and is left to dry for 4 years before it is used. The wood is decorated with inverted V symbols. Nontron knives have a distinctive inverted V symbol that can be found on the blade and on the handle. The symbols are burnt into the wooden handle with the help of pyrography. This is still mostly done by hand. Which means that each handle, and each Nontron knife, will be unique! Unfortunately, the exact meaning of this symbol has been lost over time. Are they religious symbols? Do they refer to the compass of the Compagnons du Devoir? Regardless of the historical meaning, the charm of a Nontron knife is absolutely timeless! 

## The blade

The blade is made from Z40C13 stainless steel. This is a French steel that is not prone to rust and is also easy to sharpen. Each blade has the V symbol and is sharpened and finished by hand.
