 ## Axe head of the Mizuno Seisakujo All Steel Bakin Japanese axe

 The axe head is made from one layer of carbon steel. When you look at the axe head closely, you can see oil residue. This is a coating that was applied to protect it during transportation. This is the way it should be, and it will wear off by itself. On both sides of the head you can find stripes. It looks remarkable, but it also has a special meaning. The seven stripes represent the eight mountains, only the eighth is not mentioned because it could bring you bad luck.

 The handle is straight and made from Japanese white oak. Please note: the wooden handle is not treated. To keep the axe in great shape we recommend you lacquer the axe yourself.

 ## Mizuno axes: the history

 The Japanese Mizuno Seisakujo axes are made by hand in Sanjo, Japan. Created because of the Japanese legend of Mizuno-san, the axes are enhanced with unique and traditional patterns from different regions in the country. Today the axes are made by Isao Mizuno and his sons. They stay true to the techniques from history when it comes to forging Japanese axes. You can tell when you look at the magnificent shape and finish of the axes.
