The **Böker Plus Appalachian Axe Small** is the smaller version of Böker's Appalachian axe. The shorter handle makes this axe a bit lighter, so it's easy to store or to take with you when travelling. Great for forest maintenance, splitting wood for the fireplace or building a shelter for a bushcraft camp. 

## Böker Appalachian Axe

The Böker Plus Appalachian Axes feature typical Rhineland axe heads of 600 grams. This is a German design that is great for felling trees and light splitting work. The heel of the axe head is also suitable for wood work if you're holding the axe close to the head.

The head is made from 1055 carbon steel. A tough type of steel that retains its sharpness well and is easy to sharpen. It is not completely stainless, however. Fortunately, Böker applied a clear varnish to protect the axe head from rust. Properly dry the axe after use. The handle is made from American Hickory wood. A long-fibre wood that is strong yet flexible, making it exceptionally good at absorbing blows without breaking.
