The **Autine Unpolished Hunters Axe** is a very robust axe, designed for hunters but also great as an all-round camping axe. This axe has a head that is thick enough for splitting wood, an edge thin enough to produce fine kindling, and enough weight for the more heavy-duty chopping tasks. It is simply a superior axe, forged by hand in Latvia.



The axe head of the Autine Hunters Axe is made from laminated steel. The cutting edge is made from instrument steel with a high carbon content. It is hardened to 59-60HRC, which is relatively hard for an axe. The core is enclosed by softer steel. This softer steel will absorb the blows so that the cutting edge can be a little harder. The edge itself is razor-sharp. You don't often come across an axe this sharp. The edge is polished like the edge of an outdoor knife. And even in that class, its sharpness stands out. As the name might already suggest, the rest of the head has a *brut de forge* finish, in other words: unpolished.



You use the back of the axe head of a Hunters Axe to break bones, without damaging the skin of the animal. The back of this axe head is nicely rounded, so it's perfect for this task. Another surefire sign that Autine really knows what it's doing.



In terms of ergonomics, the elm wood handle is a real winner. It doesn't matter how you hold it, you always have enough grip. The large curve at the end of the handle might look a bit 'much'. But when you actually hold the Hunters Axe, you'll feel that it's perfect. The balance is great, and the flare locks the handle in your hand nicely.



The Autine Unpolished Hunters Axe comes with a simple leather sheath. The sheath protects the cutting edge. Or, with this razor-sharp edge, it may be more accurate to say the sheath protects you!
