Buying Cold Steel tomahawks
A tomahawk is lighter and longer than an ordinary axe. You do not chop with it like a splitting axe, you swing from the wrist and let the head do the work. That means you can chop, break and throw with it, and carry it more easily than a full-sized axe.
The heads are Drop Forged from carbon steel, so they are hammered into shape rather than cut from plate. That makes the steel denser and better able to withstand hard impacts. Some of the models have a spike or hammer poll at the back beside the edge, for piercing or striking.
For the handles, Cold Steel uses wood and plastic. The plastic handles are extremely shock-resistant and survive blows that would split a wooden handle. Most models come with a plastic sheath for the head.
