The **SOG Altair FX** is a tough-looking fixed knife. Suitable for EDC, but also for camping trips. Thanks to the GRN handle, the knife is lightweight yet very strong.

The Altair FX is the fixed-knife version of the Altair XR, a pocket knife. They are very similar. The main advantage of a fixed knife is that no dirt can get in the locking mechanism. Which might happen with the XR. Moreover, fixed knives are more solidly-constructed. So, are you a fan of the Altair XR, but are you looking for a knife that requires less maintenance and is just a little bit stronger? The Altair FX is perfect for you.

In terms of materials SOG clearly thought about how this knife is used. The full-tang handle is made from GRN. This is a strong type of plastic, reinforced with glass fibres. The blade of this SOG knife is made from 154CM steel. This is a good stainless type of steel that retains its sharpness well. 154CM is also easy to sharpen. A cool detail of this knife is that you can detach the handle scales. You can do this with a flathead screwdriver. The end of the handle has a small cut-out just below the scale. Without handle scales, this knife is even lighter and you can carry it even closer to your body. You can also paracord-wrap the knife without the scales.

The SOG Altair FX comes with a compact GRN sheath. The sheath has a sturdy belt clip on top that lets you carry the knife on your belt. Would you rather carry the knife on your leg or attached to your MOLLE backpack? No problem! Simply remove the clip and use the cut-outs on either side of the sheath to attach it to an elastic waist belt or MOLLE strap.
