Cr-V steel

The Narex PROFI Straight Carving Chisel Profile 1, 826150, flat gouge, 50 mm is made of Cr-V steel; a high-carbon 'durability' steel with chromium and vanadium, intended for tools that need to remain tough and sharp. Cr-V, or Chromium-Vanadium, is hardened to 59 HRC using a unique hardening process that results in an even steel structure and good sharpness retention. In the 'Richter' series, Narex takes the steel to 62 HRC+ using techniques such as vacuum hardening and cryogenic post-treatment. This creates a strong, even structure that ensures long-lasting sharpness without brittleness. Cr-V is robust steel that is surprisingly easy to sharpen yourself. Important: Cr-V steel is not corrosion-resistant and can therefore discolour on contact with moisture. Dry after use and apply oil occasionally to prevent corrosion.
