This caught my eye straight away. Kershaw has a pretty broad range, both in the mid-range and at the budget end. I’m always looking for the gems in the rough, usually at the lower end. With Kershaw, you do have to pay attention, because they can happily offer 4Cr steel while a comparable knife at not even a higher price point gives you 8Cr. This one is 8Cr13MoV, though. That’s a perfectly good steel. Same goes for the FRN handle: nothing wrong with it at all. The design may have a slightly tactical look, but because of its size it still makes for a perfectly decent little EDC knife. The assisted opening is also very civilised. The text here talks about a powerful spring. Fortunately, that’s not the case; a super-strong spring isn’t ideal, as your knife could jump out of your hand. The spring here is actually almost shy. Just enough to get the blade opening actively, without a neighbour-alerting ‘snap’. More of a sigh. The size is just as civilised, so you don’t need to worry about the police being called because you’re peeling an apple. It does that job perfectly well, along with all sorts of small kitchen tasks. You could even cut your steak with it. Basically, a great Father’s Day gift!
