The **Cold Steel Outdoorsman 35AP** is a robust outdoor knife. The remarkable thing about the Cold Steel Outdoorsman is the combination of Japanese design with modern elements. The handle is Japanese. Famous from the Cold Steel tanto knives. The blade is partly Japanese, but mostly special.

 In terms of steel Cold Steel selected a San Mai construction. A core made from hard VG10 knife steel, flanked by layers of softer steel for solidity. You can clearly see the laminating line in between these two types of steel.

 Cold Steel turned the Outdoorsman into a real all-round outdoor knife. From survival and bushcraft to hunting: the Outdoorsman can do it all. The spine of the blade is partially enhanced with a special swedge. With it you can easily scrape tree bark, for instance. As such you spare the edge. The steel knife guard ensures that you don't slip and end up on the edge.

 The Cold Steel Master Tanto comes with a solid Secure-Ex sheath that is great for both left and right-handed use.

Als eingefleischter Cold Steel Fan, war ich ein bisschen ernüchtert über das gelieferte Messer. Keine Frage, das Outdoorsman ist ein Hingucker und liegt bombastisch gut in der Hand. Das Jimping, naja, wenn's das sein soll, dann ist es ok und der Knochenbrecher ist nicht wirklich Batonfreundlich, was den Nutzen als Outdoormesser doch sehr einschränkt. Als Jagdmesser vielleicht, aber zu wenig hoch. Der Hohlschliff wird zwar durch einen starken Klingenrücken gestützt, hat aber so seine Schwächen. Mich hat es aber trotz, oder genau wegen seiner außergewöhnlichen Form in den Bann gezogen und ich benutze es auch gerne zum Rindenschälen. 
Nun kommt mein wirklicher Kritikpunkt. Ich habe ja viele Messer von Cold Steel und bei den günstigeren gab's auch schon Symmetrie Probleme, aber hölle Scharf waren sie allesamt. Nur das Outdoorsman war originalverpackt regelrecht stumpf. Nach ein paar Zügen auf meinem Work Sharp hat's aber dann gepasst. Auch wenn man seine Messer schärfen können sollte, darf man sich gerade von einem Messerhersteller erwarten, dass er das Schleifen beherrscht. Seit Cold Steel die breite Masse bedient, herrscht eher das Motto, Quantität, statt Qualität.

De grip die het handvat biedt is fenomenaal.
Het is niet grof maar voelt zeer prettig aan.
Het lemmet heeft een diepe grind.
Het geheel is mooi vorm gegeven 
Al begrijp ik niet helemaal het korte gekartelde gedeelte op de rug.
Grip voor je duim biedt het niet, maar het ziet er wel leuk uit.
Het VG10 staal laat zich mooi scherp slijpen.
Punt van balans zit op de wijsvinger, dus goed.
Het is ook wat lichter dan ik had verwacht.
Tot nu toe op wat lichte dingetjes uitgeprobeerd.
Cold steel heeft een goede reputatie wat sterkte betreft, maar ik ga dat zeker niet tot het uiterste testen.
Mooi ook hoe het mes in de schede vast klikt.
