The **Civivi Synergy 4** is a cool addition to the Synergy collection. A popular WE Knife collection, but this time under the name of the budgetary sister brand: Civivi. The Synergy 4 is enhanced with many of the beloved design elements we see on its predecessors from the Synergy collection. But now more budget-friendly.

The Synergy design dates back to 1999 and was first introduced by knife designer Jim O'Young. The Synergy was not just a ground-breaking knife in terms of design. The locking mechanism and the construction of the knife were also considered to be very innovative in 1999. The Synergy 1, for instance, had a button lock and an integral handle made from one piece of aluminium. This combination resulted in this knife winning the 'Most Innovative American Design Award' at the 1999 Blade Show. Despite its success, only 200 pieces of the Synergy 1 were produced. This changed when Jim O'Young came into contact with WE Knife. The result? The Synergy collection as we know it today!



The Civivi Synergy 4 C21018B-1 Black G10, Nitro-V Blade Black, pocket knife, Jim O&#x27;Young design is a hefty EDC knife in the colour black. With its blade length of 10 cm, it's especially suited for demanding cutting tasks. This is not a compact knife! When closed, it measures 13,6 cm in length and it weighs 145 g.



Opening the Civivi Synergy 4 C21018B-1 Black G10, Nitro-V Blade Black, pocket knife, Jim O&#x27;Young design is incredibly fast thanks to the flipper, which allows for single-handed operation. The pocket knife is equipped with ceramic ball bearings making opening and closing nice and smooth. Once opened, the liner lock ensures that the knife is locked and will not accidentally snap shut.



## Blade made of Nitro-V steel
The blade of this Civivi is made of German Nitro-V steel. This is a stainless steel that is easy to sharpen. Nitro-V is also quite tough and retains its sharpness well.



The blade is enhanced with a coating. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not specified which type of coating has been applied, however, what we do know is that a coating generally protects against corrosion. However, it is always possible for the coating to start showing traces of use after a while, such as scratches. This is normal wear and tear that gives your knife character.



## G10 handle

The Civivi Synergy 4 C21018B-1 Black G10, Nitro-V Blade Black, pocket knife, Jim O&#x27;Young design features a handle made from G10 and measures 13,6 cm in length. G10 is a composite material made of glass fibre and synthetic resin. With its subtle texture, G10 feels great in hand and offers plenty of grip. Moreover, it is incredibly strong, so it can take a beating.



## Designer Jim O’Young
This knife was designed by Jim O'Young. After a 20-year career as a mechanical designer in Silicon Valley's electronics industry, he left the corporate world in 1999 to pursue his passions: competitive pistol shooting and designing, manufacturing and marketing innovative products for the firearms and knife industry. His philosophy is that a knife, like a gun, should be an extension of the user, with simple, intuitive controls and a comfortable grip. A knife should feel good in your hand, without uncomfortable protrusions.

O’Young used his expertise back in 1999 to design the SpeedTech Synergy using SolidWorks, an advanced 3D CAD software programme. This knife introduced groundbreaking design features and was awarded as the most innovative US design at the Blade Show that year.
